Tip: Downloading Test Builds
October 10, 2009  |  by Jonathan Williamson  |  Intermediate, Jonathan Williamson, Tips, Tutorials

What with the incredible development pace of Blender, we often want to play with the new features before they are released. By downloading test builds from graphicall.org we can do just that.

    1. What’s the basic difference between the two columns “Latest Blender builds” and “Optimized Builds”?
      Stability? Feature sets?

    2. I’m not really very computer sophisticated but I do use Blender a lot. I’ve been trying to get a 2.5 Blender to try it out. I’ve DL’ed the one from Blender Foundation and this one. I keep getting this same error message and Blender shuts down.

      Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
      Runtime Error! Program: C:\:Program Files\2.5 Trunk\blender.exe
      This application has requested Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the aplication’s support team for more information.

      Can someone tell me what I’m doing wrong or what I can do to get past this?

      • Make sure the Blender version you downloaded matches your OS (32- or 62-bit). I run Windows 7, and I check this by going to Control Panel –> System and Security –> System and look for system type. If you have the correct one, then you may have to take slightly more drastic measures: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307817
        Hope this helps
