With the success and outstanding community following on our sister sites: Blender Cookie and Max Cookie. We are excited to announce our new sibling site to the family: Modo Cookie
Modo Cookie is a new education site from CG Cookie educators and will work to become a large education resource for the Modo user.
Wes Burke, founder of CG Cookie and its education sites has had the pleasure of working with Alessandro Cangelosi, respected CG artist whom as worked on films such as 2012 and popular 360 and PS3 game titles. Both will be working hard to kick-start education on the site as we bring in other talented authors.
Modo Cookie is a site dedicated to supplying consistent, high quality, Modo education materials produced by industry professionals from around the globe. By offering high resolution streaming videos, written education, developer interviews and featured resources, we aim to be a central hub for Modo education.
What do we have planned for this site.
Similar to Blender and Max Cookie we have some rough goals set up on where we would like to see the site go. Where exactly the sites end up is in the hands of you as well with your feedback, tutorial suggestions and support. If anything similar to the other sites we have prepared Modo Cookie to accept growth.
- Consistent, clear postings of Modo education
- Offer free community content such as models, textures or reference photos
- More Education, More exclusives, more bundles, more site features and more sleep.
Our hopes and dreams.
Of course when we start a new project we have some pie in the sky ideas on where we would like to see it go, but in reality we can only set up a few bumpers and nudge it from time to time.
- To represent Modo Cookie at world-wide Modo events and gatherings.
- To have a office building in the city where we can peer out at the lake while sipping energy drinks
- To become a positive discussion topic at Modo gatherings.

I, just discovered CGCookie family of websites and I have to admit that the tuts you are providing are really the best. Modo is really getting popularity but being a student I just can’t allocate much time for experiments so I stick with with Blender and C4D but now with such instructors I think I’ll be experimenting with Modo.
OMG, this is awesome! *IF* and when I get better with 3D modeling, I’d like to maybe switch from Blender, over to Modo, so I’m glad there’ll be a few familiar voices around.
Darrell – I did that switch in the past and came back to Blender. It was a mistake for me.
I’ve switched from Blender to 3ds Max to Maya to Cinema 4D to SoftImage|XSI to Houdini to Modo and now I’m back with Blender again.
Don’t worry, teh blender will haunt you too =)
That makes the citizen membership even better so that’s really great. I’ve had Modo for a while now but never really got started with it so that will be a good reason to.
I found interesting a sort of quick summary of advantage (and disadvantage) of modo versus blender (and other major tool of the “market”). Maybe trough a tip for example. Each time I take a look on the gallery of the web site : “luxology” I am knocked out…
Even if I am still one of the most fervent fan of Blender (especially with the next 2.5 version and luxrender).
Congratulations, Wes
Looks like you’re definitely nailing it!
I will first learn Blender thoroughly, then look for something even a total jerk will “acknowledge” as “professional software”, though by the time this will happen, maybe Blender and Open Source will have TAKEN ON THE WORLD MWAHAHAHAHAAAA!
ROFL. Let’s shake hands and wait for the OS revolution together. Our time schedule just about matches I think.
*shakes hand violently*
Let’s ride majestic translucent steeds, shooting flaming arrows, across the bridge of Hemdale…
Great to witness the birth of another great 3D project and best luck to it!
Modo’s capabilities sure look impressive but checking my budget atm, I think I’ll be sticking around Blender for just one more eternity.
how does modo compare to blender? this is the first time I’ve heard of it. does it bring anything new or better, or is it just an alternative?
