thats important to know, good hint on the .blend *thumbsup
one thing to watch out for, however:
due to the development of blender 2.5, some things change drastically between builds.
using a .blend file from a previous build can sometimes cause problems in areas that a still changing/evolving/being refined.
for example, the official alpha0 release is completely incompatible with new builds in some areas.
When I open a blend file that I had started in 2.49 in 2.5 it changes the layout to mimmic 2.49 at least thats what it looks like to me. Is there a way to open them and still keep the 2.5 default layout?
Thanks
Yes, there is a way. Just open up Blender 2.5 and append the scene from the file you wish to work on. You can then delete the original scene in the Blender 2.5 instance that you opened and rename the one you appended.
There’s also an option “Load UI” that is checked by default, just uncheck that and your good to go
i think you could simply load the old .B.blend via File/open and disable “load UI”. Then save user settings.
What if you’re on mac?

Looks like this only needs to be done when using blender for the Windows OS.
When working with Blender for MacOS X you always get the same user-defined settings which is stored in a central location, no matter what version of Blender you use.
This should be mentioned in your tip-video.
Thanks for this great tip Jonathan
Some advice, please:
I still have not installed 2.5 as it’s not recommended yet. David does his tutorials in 2.5, the others mostly in 2.49 – could we either just all wait for 2.6 until the 2.5 training series will be released or should we all switch to 2.5 now, even though it’s not fully functional yet? Or should we just run both versions?
I’m sure that for newbies consistency might be important – I can adjust and so do many others, but it might throw people who start with Blender off a bit.
No problem, Wes. I’m sorry to drag things off-topic. You’re all doing a great job here, and I thought it was funny “Resveratrol Supplements” had made it through the cracks. Go ahead and delete this comment and my previous one if you like now that the offensive post is gone.
Hold on mods! I expected to see my reply mocking this spammer deleted, but I’m very much surprised to see the spam left untouched! “Resveratrol supplements”? Did you not click the link on the name? It can’t be this easy to spam these boards, can it?
Hahah man, thanks for speaking up!. We have over 2000 comments rolling in here and some do slip through. I will promptly hit the anti-spam robot with hammer for you. Though I am sure they were valuable supplements we all can use.. hah
